Hive 5 - July Blocks

Sneaking my post in just in time!  Robin asked for these fun Magic 8 Ball blocks this month and I had fun trying to find good fabrics from my stash to feature.

Here are my finished blocks!

I hope you like them, Robin!

Hive 7 - Migrating Geese for Katie

Rebecca here from @oneweebird, almost forgot to post a pic of these blocks for Katie!!
Such fun colours!

I look forward to seeing these all together, which knowing you Katie will be very soon!

July Block for Lori, at the Last Minute! Hive 4

Just in time to be on time. I'm finally posting Lori's pumpkin block. Oh my goodness, I love this block! Every month I want a quilt just like the queen of that month has and this month is no exception!  Here is Lori's pumpkin block!

Hope this works for you Lori! I loved making this block and cannot wait to see it in your finished quilt!

June Block for Alison - Hive 4

So, I promise I mailed this at the end of June...I just forgot to do a blog post about it because I'm terrible! Here is Alison's pineapple block. I kinda love it.

I may have kinda started making blocks for my own pineapple quilt as well!

Hive 6 blocks for Karen July 2017

My first time doing string blocks..I hope you like them Karen.
I didn't sew them together so you had the option of arranging them yourself.

They went out in last Friday's mail

Laura

Hive 2 Blocks for Julie

Well I have had them done for a few days but posting under the wire. Sorry about that.  They are in the mail.  I made 2 stars for you. I used a white on whte ribbon material which I thought was perfect for your cause. Can't wait to see the quilt.

July block for Hive Three

Here it is .  I finally finished the July block for Meredith and I think it's a beauty.  I hope you like it Meredith!  I had fun making it once my brain cleared enough to be able to pick all the fabrics.  I've left the trimming for you.

July Flip-and-Stitch Block for Meredith

This was a fun block to make.  Thanks, Meredith, for the clear instructions.  Congratulations to your son and his fiancé on their upcoming wedding.  Excuse my bad photography.  As you requested, I didn't trim the ragged edge of the block. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.
Robin, here are two blocks for you.  They should arrive tomorrow.  Quilty hugs, Jennifer

July for Robin

Hi all -

This month has gotten away from me.  I finished the block on the 8th, didn't send it until Friday, and am now blogging on the 30th.

This block was fun and easy!  I look forward to seeing the finish!

And...I didn't take pictures.  Ugh.  So sorry everyone!  In lieu of the blocks, here is a picture of some flowers outside my house!

A July Block for Hive 3

I had a bit of trouble with this seemingly simple block.  No matter how much I measured and remeasured, checked and rechecked, I couldn't quite get the bands of blue to line up across the accent bars.  Hope this will work for you Meredith.  The block was mailed yesterday.

Even though I did get my June block made and in the mail to Rose in a timely fashion, in between out-of-town guests and illness, I didn't get it posted.  If anyone is still interested, here's June's block.

Hive 4: A pumpkin for Lori

I'm getting this one in at the very last minute and I wish I had time to make more of these adorable pumpkins, but this month has been nuts and I have about five more bee blocks to make...

I actually saw the first pumpkin of the season at the grocery store yesterday--a wee hokaido--and so this is all putting me in the mood for some of Donna Hay's spiced coconut pumpkin soup. I tried to find the recipe on her website to share with you (I have it in a book) but it's not there. These are though, and holy yum.

Hive 1 block for Greta - Hello from Wisconsin, Diane G here just in time with your July block.  I was  a bit behind when my October copy of American Patchwork and Quilting arrived and there was this easy yet different Maple Leaf block.  I enlarged the size a bit to make you this big 15 inch block.  The green was easy too because I made a scrappy green Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt last year for my son's wedding with lots of different greens in the background.  Hope you like it.

Hive 1 July Block for Greta

Greta asked us for green maple leaves.  I had lots of little green scraps, so decided to try four 6" blocks instead of one 12" block.  I thought about putting them together into a single block, but left them apart so Greta can arrange or scatter them however she likes.  Can't wait to see her finished quilt!

Greta--I put them in the mail today.

Greta's Hive 1 July Block

Greta..  I really enjoyed these for you.   I was able to put them in the mail yesterday (7/26)  Hope they will work in your quilt.

Hive 2 Star Block for Julie

Julie gave us a choice of a sixteen patch or a star block, hmmmmmmm, I don't have a lot in pink, so I made a star block.

I hope you like it and it fits in with the others Julie.

Smiles from

Purple Heart for Francis

Talk about an easy block....and its for a charity quilt which makes it even better.  Hardest part was picking out the colors I wanted to use.

The post office loves it when I try to explain what I'm sending internationally.  Hope you have it already or soon.

Hive 7 - July

What a fun block to make. Hope I got the colors right.

Now to wait for August!

String block for Karen

These were easy! I love string blocks but haven't sewn them using a muslin foundation before and was surprised how much weight is added. I think I'd like these made into a quilt without batting, maybe with a flannel backing fabric?

I'll be curious to see what you do with these blocks of many colors, Karen. Enjoy!

Update on I-Spy Quilt

My I-Spy Quilt for my dad is now a top. It is not quilted yet, but will be done for when I travel to see him in December, and will be his Christmas present. Thanks to all who contributed blocks. I used every block that I received, and I'm  sure dad will love it.

Finished Quilt from Stash Bee 2015

Deana from Dreamworthy Quilts contacted me today asking me to share her completed Stash Bee quilt. It was from 2015 and she finally finished it and I couldn't be happier to share it with all of you.

I clearly remember her block because it was one of the first times that I crashed a hive and the very first time I attempted curved piecing! Since then, this block/quilt has been on my to-do list.

If you'd like to see more photos are more info on her quilt, you can check out her blog post here.

Block for Queen Meredith

Here is my block for July.  Orange and Navy are among my favorite colors, and it seems I have plenty of lighter shades of blue as well. I sent this block a week ago, so it should already be at its destination.  It's untrimmed as requested.  I look forward to seeing the wedding quilt put together!

July Block for Karen Hive 6

Hi Karen,

I made these several weeks ago and thanks to Emily's reminder, am doing my post today and will get them in the mail on Monday!

Pumpkins

Since they were small, I made two pumpkins for Lori's patch.  It also helped that I had several fabrics that I thought would work...that isn't always the case.  One pumpkin is a more traditional orange (and white) while the other pumpkin has a few additional colors.  Hopefully it'll still work though.
Lori has already received these since it's been a busy summer and I'm behind on almost everything.  At least, that's what it feels like. :)

Scrappy Pumkins for - Hive 4 July Queen Lori

Queen Lori,

It was fun making these Great Pumpkin blocks for you!  It put me in a happy mood.  It has been over a month, it seems, since I have gotten to work on any projects.  So, this was a nice segue, a good way to spend a hot and humid Sunday afternoon.  I hope they work for you.  Will post in the mail tomorrow.

Yours,
Patty

Hive 7 July

Love this block. I've had it made for a while but it got buried under other stuff  I was working on.  Will send out today

Hive 3 Block for July

Block for July

What a lovely colour combo, my first block for the bee, three years ago used this colour combo, just love it!
Had a great time pulling these colours together, had more blues than orange so went with the blue option.
Love the way the block turned out, except for the pearl bracelets that aren't straight and creates the illusion the whole block is off .

Its in the mail !

Blocks for Marie

Hi Marie!
My blocks went in the mail to you yesterday morning. I hope the fabric selections are what you were looking for. I made more HSTs than I needed for your blocks, so I sent along the extras. I thought it was better for you to mix them in with yours than to have blocks with the same fabrics in them.
Stay cool!
Liz

Hive 4 Block for Lori

Enjoying the dog days of summer while sewing these cuties together.  Reminds me that fall is just around the corner.  Am I the only one who thinks summer goes by too quickly?  Thank you, Lori.  I really enjoyed making these blocks, and it gave me an opportunity to add orange strings to my string stash.  I am about to start my first ever string quilt and discovered I had NO orange in the box.

Hive 2 July Block for Julie

Hi, All

Queen Julie gave us two choices, a star block or a 16 patch, to be included in a breast cancer quilt. What a great cause! And what could be more cheery than a scrappy quilt?! Here's my block, Julie.

I hope it works well in the overall scheme.  It will go in the mail soon.

Happy Quilting!
~Cheryl

Angel Blocks for Hive 9

Marie had some slightly more traditional fabric requests this month that posed some challenges for some of her hive mates. Luckily for her, my aunt had given me some fabrics a while back that fit the bill. I just had to dig deep into my scrap bins in the hopes that I didn't donate them at our guild's recent fabric auction! Thankfully, I found some of them so I made 2 blocks for her.

Marie, I'll get these off into the mail later this week. I hope you like them and that they work well with the others that you receive!

Maple Leaf Block for Greta

Miracle of miracles - I have a block made for Greta! It's so nice to be sewing again, even if it's only a few blocks. Thanks to my awesome hive mates for carrying me along these last few months while I took the time to focus on my health. You guys rock!

I'll be getting this block in the mail to you later this week!

Hive 5 - July block for Robin

Looks like more than one of us thought  Tula Pink's Queen Elizabeth would make a great center for magic 8 block.
